My roommate recently had a birthday, so I decided to knit him a hat. I’ve been planning this hat for him for a while, but have had difficulty finding a pattern I liked. I had decided to pick a stitch from my stitch dictionary and just kind of wing it, but I wasn’t feeling up to it. So I did another search on Ravelry, a search just like all the others and saw the same hats that didn’t speak to me before and I was starting to feel let down when all of a sudden, one struck me.
The Hurricane Hat by Andrea Goutier is a spectacular pattern. Well written and such a simple stitch that really gives the project a special OOMPH. This will be my go-to pattern for next year’s gift knitting (money issues are leaving me unable to gift this year like I’d like and I hope to do a better job next year) and I’m already planning on using the stitch to make myself a cowl and a hat that will better accommodate my dreadlocks.
The hat was knit in Noro Kureyon, a 100% wool yarn that is loosely spun, giving it some thick and thin spots which I LOVE. The colorway I used was 268 but there are so many great choices.
The owner loves this hat. I love this hat. It is definitely at the top of my favorite knits.

I recently made that hat with a solid yarn, and I have to agree it is a super simple pattern but adds a lot of pop. I love how it works with a variety of yarns. Glad to hear the gift was well received!

I love the pattern. I do believe a few more will be made next year. It works very well with gifting, too. I think it’s a pattern that many people will enjoy and appreciate.

Thank you! It was a hard one to give up. I’m planning on making myself one next year during my Year of Selfish Knitting =]

Wow, the Kureyon suits that wonderfully!

I agree. I always tend to second guess my patter/yarn choices, even if it looks nice afterwards. I feel like this one was just perfect, though!
